Moises Caicedo has said he wants Enzo Fernandez to remain at Chelsea as uncertainty continues around the Argentina midfielder’s future and reported interest from Real Madrid.
Speaking during Chelsea’s pre-season preparations, Caicedo described keeping Fernandez as important for the club, while also making clear that the final decision must rest with his team-mate. The Ecuador international praised Fernandez’s character as well as his ability, framing his comments as support rather than an attempt to influence a transfer outcome publicly.
Fernandez has not yet rejoined Chelsea’s travelling group after Argentina’s run to the World Cup final, according to multiple outlets. That international commitment accounts for a delayed return, but it comes against a backdrop of speculation that has followed the 25-year-old for several months.
A future still unresolved
Reports differ slightly in their account of how the situation developed, but agree that Fernandez’s future became a prominent issue during last season. One report says remarks about a potential move to Spain led to Chelsea leaving him out of the side, while another says the club imposed a two-match internal suspension after comments made on a YouTube channel.
